Utzon Center
The Utzon Center in Aalborg is a dynamic and experimental cultural and knowledge center where architecture, design, art and communication merge into a higher unity. It was designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon (1918-2008), who grew up in Aalborg. The Utzon Center was inaugurated in May 2008, and is the first in a series of cultural highlights along the waterfront in Aalborg. The Utzon Center is located down by the harbor and does not have its own parking areas. However, there are two disabled parking spaces along the building. Access to the main entrance is via either a ramp with a slope of 5 percent (no handrails) or the stairs. There are 2 sets of double glass doors at the entrance with a windbreak in between. The doors open automatically or by passing past a censor on the wall at the entrance. The center's exhibition is on a level in rooms, which are located around an open atrium with seating furniture. In one room you will find a detailed exhibition about the construction of the Sidney Opera House. Please note that the floor in this room slopes up to 5 percent and has open edges without guardrails or handrails. For some, it may be a good idea to be accompanied by a companion who is able to walk and see well. You can reach the 1st floor of the two "towers" via 2 elevators. In one tower you will find the "Obelske Auditorium" and in the other there are offices. There are accessible toilet facilities on the ground floor.
